Publisher Challenge Review – Compete for Prizes with the Top Affiliates
April 4, 2009 by: admin
Looking to compete against other affiliate marketers online? Well, you probably have enough competition as it is, but now you can actually track results on a leaderboard and get rewarded handsomely for being the cream of the crop. My Internet marketing friend Tyler Cruz recently launched a new site called PublisherChallenge.com where affiliates can compete with one another and win some sweet prizes from the top networks.
You all know my opinion on affiliate marketing contests. They’re great because everyone involved stands to gain. The affiliate network gets more qualified publishers to run their offers, affiliates are motivated and can win high-ticket prizes along with commissions, the contest holder earns referral fees, and the affiliate marketing community learns more about the tricks of the trade.
Publisher Challenge stems off of the success Tyler was having with his Market Leverage affiliate contests, where he teamed up with Market Leverage to give away some awesome prizes and earn a nice referral check every month (up to $6,000 a month). Tyler simply took the concept and moved everything to an entirely new site, and Publisher Challenge was born.
I really have to give Tyler props for this one. It’s a great idea that I know will be profitable for him and beneficial for affiliates and affiliate networks.
Site Features
Publisher Challenge looks great and is programmed very nicely. There is a leaderboard for each competition that is automatically updated with statistics for new members and commissions generated. This sort of near real-time tracking is crucial in making a concept like this work, and the site pulls it off very nicely.
Here are some of the most recent stats for Publisher Challenge. As you can see, quite a few affiliate networks have participated (including Market Leverage, XY7, and Motive Interactive) and the site has generated close to $750,000 in commissions – including $2,500 this month. A nice chunk of change…

Limitations & Suggestions
The biggest problem with Publisher Challenge, which I think will severely stunt the site’s growth, is that affiliates MUST sign up under Tyler in order to participate in the competitions. If you’re already a member of the networks, then you can’t play. Although this ensures that Tyler gets paid, it dramatically reduces the number of participants. For example, I was already signed up with Market Leverage when Tyler launched his contests – so there was no way I could take part and win the prizes. Bummer.
Tyler, my suggestion to you is to open up the competitions to ALL affiliates, no matter who they sign up under, as long as they’re members of Publisher Challenge. This change will greatly increase participation and exposure for the site. The more people that play, the more others will take notice and talk about it as well. A large percentage of new affiliates will still sign up under your affiliate link so you’re bound to earn referral fees. As the site becomes more popular, you can probably even charge the networks to feature their competitions. With the new business that they’ll receive I’m sure they’d be willing to pay up.
Current Contest
The current affiliate competition for April features PeerFly. Affiliates who make the most commissions from the network in the month of April win prizes like a new Apple Macbook, Playstation 3 Rock Band, X-Box, Wii, and more. Affiliates in the VIP tiers ($25,000-200,000) can win even better prizes like an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas.
After 4 days into the competition, the standings are as follows.

The leader only has $69.60 in commissions. Might be a good opportunity for someone to swoop in and take the prize.
What do you think about Publisher Challenge? Companies are already copying Tyler’s concepts so it must be a good idea…
