Netflix Opens Application Gallery
May 18, 2009 by: adminLate last year, Netflix opened up its API to developers. There have been a number of applications set up to allow for various Netflix integrations.
These include mobile apps, Netflix for Facebook Connect, and others. They can now be viewed at the new Netflix App Gallery.

With the Gallery, Netflix is encouraging the creation of more apps. Developers looking to use the Netflix API and add to the directory can follow these steps according to Netflix:
- Browse the documentation
- Register for a developer account
- Apply for an API Key
- Join a discussion in the forums
- Find resources such as tools and code libraries
In the time since Netflix opened its API to developers, the company has formed a number of partnerships with companies like Samsung, TiVo, LG, New York Times, Rotten Tomatoes, etc. The company has also hit a couple big milestones this year. In February, they announced that they had reached over 10 million subscribers. In April, Netflix announced the shipment of its 2 billionth movie.
As developers continue to make more applications, the service is only going to appeal to a wider range of people, and this should be good for the growth of the company. More apps generally means more accessibility, and that’s got to be good for business.
