Awesome New Plugin to Build a Niche Site

November 28, 2009 by: admin

I know this is kinda premature… but I have been part of a beta-testing team, trying out a new WordPress price comparison plugin for Niche sites… and I am so amazed by the initial success I have seen so far, I just had to write about it! I am somewhat hand-tied and cannot release too much information about it, but it does EXACTLY what every niche store owner has been looking for some time, it turns your existing WordPress site into a “WordPress Price Comparison Engine“, showing the best deals from HUNDREDS of related sites, including eBay, all from within 1 affiliate network!

Why Do I Like It?

If you have ever used datafeedr, datafeedfile, the cjniche plugin, or just about any other solution out there that shows more than one vendors products, you KNOW what a pain in the ass it is to go through the process of applying for EVERY affiliate program and adding each store to your account. With this new WordPress price comparison plugin… you join 1 affiliate network and the rest is handled through that network.

In less than 5 minutes, I was able to convert an 80 page website to the new system, showing relevant listings, and receiving clicks to the new program and earning immediately!!

The plugin works just like phpbay, phpostock and other plugins of the same type. You install it, set some basic configuration settings, add the shortcode to your posts (or, like I do, use code to do it all automatically) and you are done!

A lot of folks have asked in the past about using custom fields, this is one of those instances where a custom field was not even needed! I simply pulled my “Page Title” variable from WordPress, and using it as a search keyphrase, draw the listings onto the pages!

Another GREAT feature is that it is 100% template driven (Like phpbay) and if you want a different layout – just create your own template and go! There are more than 50 variable calls you can extract from the feed and use on your pages, including reviews, storenames, images, etc.

What I am Weary Of…

It is still semi-related to eBay in the sense that it uses a “earnings per click” reward model. On the plus side, in the 24-48 hours that I have been using it, the EPC I am seeing is in the +$.25 cents per click range. In the Ebay system, these EXACT same pages were earning .11 cents per click before I pulled the listings a week or two ago.

It is also using the Shopping.com API to draw the product listings to the site (Which IS owned by eBay) so I have to see what I can do to get in front of any bot clicking that may occur… You WILL NEED to be a member of the Shopping Partner Program.

When Can I Say More?

As of right now – the final bug list is being addressed… but I would expect to see the WordPress price comparison plugin available within the next 10-14 days. At this point, I don’t know if it will be commercial or free…

If you want to see it in action – you can go to the Womens Fashion Jeans website and browse around. Like I said, there are still a few bugs being worked out… so what you see is just a work in progress.
